There are several different ways to go about stump grinding, however, that are two techniques that have become the most popular over the last two decades.
The first method is to use a commercial stump grinder. This is the tactic that Corpus Christi Tree Service uses on a daily basis. We have a large commercial stump grinder, and we can reduce a stump down to nothing - 6 inches below ground level - in a matter of an hour.
This comes in handy when you want to completely get rid of a stump, and make it appear as if it never existed.
We can reduce a stump to 6-8 inches below the ground, then cover the area with soil, and finally fresh sod grass. We can make it look like there was never a tree there in the first place!
The second method that can be used is a chemical method. This tactic relies on various chemical to break down the stump over the course of a month or so, before we return to the stump to completely break down and remove it.
The process, which is not stump grinding (one of our tree maintenance and tree trimming services), begins by drilling holes, about one inch in diameter, into the stump itself. Then we can inject chemicals into the base where we are wanting to soften the actual tree stump. Once that part of the job is done, it's a waiting game. We simply wait for the stump to soften after a few weeks, then remove the stump altogether.
We highly prefer stump grinding over this second method, and our customers usually do too. Stump grinding is way faster than take a chemical route, and we can usually complete the job within a few hours.
